WHAT PEOPLE SAY

The Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Hub has the potential to transform health outcomes for the region.
Health – Community sports participation has direct link to community wellbeing
Gender equity – If a girl does not participate in sport by the time she is 10, there is less than 10% chance she will be participating when she is 25. 2000 females participate in sport every week in Macedon Ranges but facilities are major constraint to higher participation
Obesity $87.7 Billion – Federal Government reports state that without increased investment in well designed interventions, there will be 50% more obese people, costing Australia $87.7B by 2025
Mental health – Increased sports participation reduces the risk of mental health and obesity
Suicide rates – Macedon Ranges has higher suicide rates than the national average; community engagement matters

Active through life – Physical activity is increasingly linked to better mental and physical health outcomes for retirees. The Hub will be inclusive for both young and old.

Indoor court facilities have been stretched for over a decade. Feasibility study was done in 2009. Participation has increased. Population has increased. And growing. We need a Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Hub to fill the infastructure backlog and get it right to cater for the next 30 years.
